I'll jump in straight away with this announcement for a quilt show that is on this coming weekend:

Campbelltown Quilt Show: Campbelltown Patchwork and Quilting Guild present their Campbelltown Quilt Show on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 November (10-4 pm each day) at Campbelltown Civic Hall (Cnr Queen and Broughton St, Campbelltown, NSW). The show includes the members quilt exhibition, cafe lunches and Devonshire teas, traders tables, raffle quilt, quilting demonstrations and homemade items for sale.  Email campbelltownquiltguild@yahoo.com.au  for more details.

Here is the The Campbelltown Quilters' raffle quilt that won first prize in the Group Category at the 2017 Sydney Show. What a bright happy quilt!

The Campbelltown Quilt Show is guaranteed to be a wonderful show!! I don't have any quilts at the quilt show...
But,
Just around the corner at the Campbelltown Arts Center one of my quilts is flying high as a finalist in the Fisher's Ghost Art Award!!

The highly regarded Fisher's Ghost Art Award has been running for 55 years and attracts entries from all over Australia. My work was accepted in the Sculpture category,  I call it a quilt but it's two sided and the scallops flip up and over making it very 3D when you play with it. It's fun to see it blowing in the wind.

I had no idea where it was going to be displayed. I did let the gallery know it could be hung as a two sided work but it was such a wonderful surprise to walk in and see it hanging from the rafters. Someone described it as a welcome banner. I love that description.

It's always tricky to get the colour right, even more so when the room was lit with moody, party lighting for the opening evening.

Here's a photo to give you a better idea of the freshness of the bright colours and quirky fabrics that I like to use.

Instead of the usual artist photo standing in front of their work here I am pointing. and grinning my goofy smile.  I couldn't even get close to it for the crowds of people.

It's not everyday that you get to stand under a quilt floating in the air.

There were crowds and crowds of people at the opening!! The people watching was as fun as looking at the art.

Here's a video I took, it's great to hear the party buzz of the crowd.

If you feel like a day out, The Fishers Ghost Art Award is a worthwhile exhibition to see. The Campbelltown Arts Center is a big spacious gallery and there are six(I think that's right) rooms of art in different styles and a variety of mediums. It's a great slice of what is happening in the contemporary art world. We're looking forward to going back to have another look.

1 Art Gallery Rd. Campbelltown NSW 2560

Open Every Day from 10am - 4pm, Free Entry
There's a great cafe and a garden to wander around in as well

I do have a confession to make... When I made this quilt I called it Blue Jeans and Moonbeams. I love that name. it's fun, whimsical and it suits the quilt. However when I entered it in the exhibition I renamed it Layer Upon Layer to make it sound more like serious art, and I guess to help emphasise that it is indeed layers overlapping each other. To be honest I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not? Blue Jeans and Moon Beams is definitely my preferred name. Maybe I can think of it as having a stage name, or a nick name.

And here's my name in black and white in the catalogue.

While I'm talking of black and white, there's a challenge on Instagram at the moment to take black and white photos of daily life for a week. My daily life is full of quilts so of course I focused on those. It was interesting to see how my usual colour-drenched work looked in black, white and many shades of grey. I couldn't resist adding a touch of colour to some. I'm such a rule breaker!

This photo leads onto my most recent finish...

Gee Whiz!!

A quilt featuring horses, hand stitching, quirky fabrics...

and lots and lots and lots of folded fabric triangles!!

I'll save the full story for my next post...
