Forget me Knot
I recently made a little sampler of knots that can be used for tying quilts.
It was a great excuse to play with buttons, daisies, ribbon and yarn.
It ended up being a sweet little quilt of 17inches square.
Of course I called it Forget Me Knot.
And to make sure I really don't forget I've written a post about popular knots used in quilting. Pop over here to the Craftsy blog to check it out. Feel free to let me know if you've any got handy Tying tips. I'm sure there's lots of clever tricks out there.
I seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment. A photo of my Double Denim Wedding Ring quilt appears on page 21 of Modern Patchwork Spring 2014. The quality of the photographs is really excellent. You can actually see the stitches of my quilting. It's a great magazine with lots of patterns and a focus on fun bright modern quilts.
I've also heard Blue Mountain Daisy has been mentioned as a blog to visit in the current New Zealand Quilter magazine. I've ordered a copy but haven't received it yet so not quite sure what it actually says, but to any New Zealanders that are reading this - Kia ora!!

I just LOVE your blog. Thank you. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute little mini Rachael! You have the BEST ideas, and are so creative in the process! I'm not surprised you are popping up everywhere!
ReplyDeleteYour sampler is just delightful! I am terrible at knots when it comes to stitching. For some reason I end up with knots in the length of cotton instead of on the fabric. I shall never take up embroidery! I think I could manage the buttons and the tied yarn for a quilt. Perhaps. I love the strips of fabric you used as a background (and the way you chose which knots/embellishments to use - very creative!). How very exciting to have your work featured in so many places!
ReplyDeleteI love your little sampler!

ReplyDeleteA clever way to keep your knowledge of ties together. Hooray for you being recognised for your quilting and your wonderful blog.
ReplyDeleteLove your little mini Rachael....HUGE congratulations to you...you deserve it all!
ReplyDeleteI love a tied quilt! It has been years since I made one, but one thing I did do a little differently...I used a curved needle. As I recall, the curved needle made it easy to place your two ends close to each other. Thanks for the sampler Rachael! It is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love tied quilt too. I think knots provide another layer of textures just like quilting. Your square is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteDaisies popping up all over is a beautiful thing! Congratulations my friend!

ReplyDeleteSWEET! And Congratulations on popping up everywhere -- very well deserved!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute sampler and congrats!
ReplyDeleteGenius idea to make a "knot" sampler. I saw your quilt in the magazine and nearly jumped up and down and said to someone standing next to me in the bookstore, "See this quilt? I KNOW her!!"
ReplyDeleteThat is seriously one of the cutest mini's I have seen. And genius idea to incorporate knots and buttons...
ReplyDeleteYou're famous !!!!!!!!!(and deservedly so!)
You are getting around, or your quilts are, and with good reason!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute mini you've done to demonstrate your tying ideas! Here's a different knot that I learned. A lady in my quilt guild insisted we use a special knot when tying the charity quilts. Decorative but functional as well. Leaving a tail, come up to the top from the underside, then make a french knot using 2 or 3 twists, and go back down through the quilt to the back. Then, when finished, turn the quilt over and knot all the ends and trim to about 1 inch. It took a little longer, but it looked very nice.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on becoming so famous! Good for you, it's well deserved!
What a sweet Forget Me Knot sampler. Love the idea and I bet it just makes you smile.:) Great to hear that you're getting some attention--your quilts and enthusiasm are so fun to follow along with!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea - It would make a cute cover for a needle book too :) Congratulations on the publications!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore your mini, it's a gorgeous idea. Wow, you are even more famous . Congratulations on your magazine exposure, it couldn't happen to a more deserving person.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Congrats on your appearances all over the place. Well deserved my friend!
ReplyDeleteForget me Knot. You're so funny and talented!
Love your little quilt. What an excellent idea to turn your knot smiles into this little beauty. I have tied a few quilts. Nice and quick and I think very effective for log cabin and string style quilts. Our group made a Spiderweb quilt for one of our member's 60th birthday and we used a combination of hand quilting and tying with red buttons. Very effective! So pleased you getting so well known. NZ Quilter too! Well done.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a sweet sampler - and practical too! Congrats on all the "poppings up" - how exciting!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are popping up everywhere! You've got the talent and personality so you go, girl!!!
ReplyDeleteHey famous woman....that's a cute mini...I have a friend whose probably made 30 quilts in the last year and she's tied every one of them, and used the same pattern most likely. :/
ReplyDeleteEVeryone should visit you so see your fab work and wonderful fun posts
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I cannot offer any tips. I worked with my sister on a tied quilt and the ties came undone! Yeah not good. I will say this was before we had a computer on hand to quickly look the technique up. I haven't tried tying again. I am such a chicken!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for leaving me a comment. Your kind words encourage me to keep sharing my work and stories.
