Gypsy Carnival
Here's a quilt never seen on my blog before...
Introducing Gypsy Carnival.
60x60inches
60x60inches
Besides being rather bright and dazzling Gypsy Carnival's main feature are the colourful Prairie Points in the sashing and around the circles.
The folded triangles certainly add a fun 3D effect. They reminds me of festive bunting at a carnival, or strings of lights hung outside at a party.
The colourful garden fabric is Strawberry Serenade from Jane Sassaman's Early Birds range. It's one of my very favourite fabrics, so it's nice to finally get it out of my cupboard and use it in a quilt.
Always wanting to try new things I put Gypsy Carnival together using a Quilt as You Go method, quilting the 3 layers of quilt in sections before joining them together. It was great for using up odds and ends of batting. I thought it would be faster but I think it took me just as long as if I'd sewn it as a top and then quilted it all at once. It was also quite awkward sewing all the quilted pieces together. I wont be rushing to finish a quilt like this again but still it was good to try something different.
A benefit of QAYG was ending up with a planned backing. The sunflower thistles are more Jane Sassaman fabric, from her Prairie Gothic range, how perfect for a quilt with prairie points! It's teamed up wonderfully with the Sis Boom zebra fabric.
The front and back mix really well when swished about.
Outdoors in the afternoon sun...
So that's Gypsy Carnival, A bright colourful party in fabric.
If you've popped over from the Blogger's Quilt Festival thank you so much for visiting!
A super big Thank You to Amy for organising such a great event and to all the sponsors who support the festival.
Watch out for my other quilt entered in the festival in the Applique Category.

ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous quilt Rachael! I've never yet tried prairie points (even though I own a whole book about them!) but these are making me itch to have a go. As always I love your bright colours and really original design!
ReplyDeleteWow what an explosion of color! The polka dots and prairie points in the borders set off the colors in the block perfectly. You must have had a fun time making this on.

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely dazzling, and I don't say that lightly! Wow! Let's see... I love the palette, the balance, the prairie points, the Sassaman....is just a riot! Pure love.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I clicked through - your quilt is a stunner ! I adore the colors (and the 3D triangles ...)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to feature the Strawberry Serenade. I need to look for that fabric now, talk about up my alley! Beautiful! Sam
ReplyDeleteRachael!! This is amazing. The Sassaman/Sis Boom mix leaves me smiling. I love the added dimension of the prairie points, the unexpected background fabrics...well, just everything, really. You've outdone yourself!
ReplyDeleteI can hear the flags flapping at the carnival and smell the carmel corn! What a beautiful use of the Jane Sassaman print. Again, you've got a real winner here! I've never tried QAYG, but you're tempting me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt! I just love the bright pops of color with that textured gray. And that polka dot fabric is incredible! I know the Jane Sassaman fabric is the star but I often fall in love with the supporting cast and that polka dot works very hard to make everything else shine. Congrats on another fabulous quilt!
ReplyDeleteThose folded triangles are just fabulous! I'd love to try that some time.
ReplyDeletelove it - what a great way to use that super graphic fabric and fabulous prairie points too - I often think about QAYG but haven't tried it yet !
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the prairie points. I've only done one QAYG project, which was a mug rug. It was great for using up scraps of batting, but I don't know that I'd choose that method again for any other reason.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your quilt. Your photos really captured the spirit. The Jane Sassman fabric is perfect especially with the prairie points!
ReplyDeleteso pretty - love those colorful prairie points
ReplyDeleteMy jaw drops every time I visit your blog. You are so talented and every idea you come up with is a winner.
ReplyDeleteWow - this quilt is so beautiful! Strawberry Serenade is stunning and you have found the perfect way to showcase it. I am always amazed at your creativity and uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteAnother one of your amazing ideas made into a quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt is vibrant and stunning and wonderful. It is a two for one with that wonderful back, too.
Those prairie points liven it up no end.
Congratulations on a great quilt!
Lovely bright and cheerful quilt; those prairie points gives the quilt character!
ReplyDeletegreat new quilt! Wow, you really kept this one under wraps. Love the colors and the floral print. Looks great outside with the beautiful pink flowers.
ReplyDeleteThe backing is terrific! Love that black and white stripe fabric.
Great quilt - another real winner!
so gorgeous and bright! I love how you pick fabrics that most people would shy away from, and make them into something stunning :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and fabric. Your ideas are such an inspiration. I have a huge QAG in the making and although I haven't touched it in nearly a year I refuse to call it an UFO. It's in no way as beautiful as yours, just strings of leftover fabrics and some fabrics I really wanted to get rid of. The back's are leftovers from other quilt backs. But it has double batting and will be very warm when finished.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful colorful quilt. The 3-D is quite nice and I like how the back worked out. I'm going to try a QAYG on a challenge quilt I'm starting next week. Don't know what to expect but I think it's the only way to achieve the effect I'm after.
ReplyDeleteWonderful showcase of a super large scale print.
ReplyDeleteyour talent for using such fabrics is delightful
Those prairie points are the bomb Rach! Everytime you make a quilt you put in a special detail .
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt –it’s bright and fun and so very you. Fantastic job!
It really is quite gypsy like! I think it is those centre panels with the black background. They really do look like Roma embroidery. With another fabric the quilt would have looked more carnival. Clearly a genius fabric choice. The 3D triangles add an almost Indian look. A joyous quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a happy quilt and very beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteWow, yet another great rachaeldaisy quilt! I often see fabric and think "that is bluemountaindaisy fabric" - it is always bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteRachael, this is a stunner!! You are sooooo clever and creative! Love the Jane Sasserman fabric and such a creative use of prairie points. Love it!
ReplyDeletei can see the gypsies dancing now….so fun
ReplyDeleteStunning use if colour Rachael! Thise brights are just a perfect foil to the feature fabric, as is the background fabrics. Plenty to keep the eyes busy. absolutely dynamite backing! Perfecto!
ReplyDeleteWow! I really love this, especially the prairie points. It's funny but I was just thinking about trying those today. The fabrics all work so well together..dark with brights is always good :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great design Rachael. I love the Jane Sassaman fabric. You have put it together so well to show it off. In one other the pics its hard to see where the quilt ends and the flowers begin! The backing is lovely too!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so fun! Perfect name, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the 3D element in this quilt - so wish I could see it in real life :)
ReplyDeleteOh my Rachael. You've done it again. Another stunning creation. Love the colours, the design, the 3D elements, everything. It's perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this quilt! That Jane Sassaman fabric is just gorgeous, you've done well to save it up for a special quilt. Love the backing just as much as the front. It really is a unique beauty.
ReplyDeleteJust amazing Rachael! This is just a riot of color! I love Jane Sassaman fabrics - just so full of color and movement! Prairie points are just out and out fun :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty! It looks and feels like festival of color in here! Love those prairie points. They create the atmosphere and sounds of happy times...children laughing, summer breeze and up beat dance music!
ReplyDeleteYou must be such a happy cheerful person....because that's what your quilts are ! I really like the way you used prairie points. And the back is fun too.
