My Liberated Medallion...
I've really got to come up with a more imaginative name for this quilt top.
Anyway, here's where I was up to the last time I shared the liberated medallion that I began in class with Gwen Marston.
For the next border I couldn't decide between triangles or circles so I did both.
And then a patchy pieced blue border to finish it off.
I'll take more photos when I've got better light but just had to point out the little lady in the blue circle...
and her gentleman friend is looking for her on the other side of the quilt.
Maybe they'll meet in the garden.
The finished top is 80 inches square and my plan is to quilt it myself. I'll stitch in the ditch around the borders then add some colourful perle stitches by hand.
but first I have to tidy up my sewing room... gosh I make a mess when I'm sewing. Am I the only one who pulls out a hundred fabrics before deciding which one to use?

Love the dots! Have fun quilting it too.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks fantastic. And no, you're not the only messy one. My sewing table is a bomb site when I'm mid-project.
ReplyDeleteoh it looks soooo good i love the circles and the triangle border. the circles are just so fun and adding surprises using the fabric is fun for when you look at the quilt.
ReplyDeleteyour going to enjoy hand quilting this one
my sewing room floor always has piles of fabric on it too , spent Friday cleaning it all up. your not alone :)
That's half the fun, isn't it- making a mess while finding the perfect fabric? Love the medallion, especially your lovelorn couple!
ReplyDeleteIt is fabulous!! How did you do the circles?
ReplyDeleteI love the triangles and circles border too. Hand quilting will finish it off perfectly.
ReplyDeleteRachel, it's to die for! Well done!
ReplyDeleteSo so good. I love the triangle-circle border.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful quilt! Love the triangle and dotty border...I bet the workshop with Gwen was amazing...(just slightly jealous!!) ; P
ReplyDeleteFabulous quilt - I love the circles and triangles! My quilting room is often a mess - and I don't even piece that much!
ReplyDeleteGreat interpretation of Gwen's class. The quilt is so you with the couple searching. I like to think a mess reflects my adaptability.
ReplyDeleteVery creative thinking on the lady and her sweetheart ! I always love your medallion quilts and I want to make one. And no Rachael, your not the only one who makes a mess, I wind up having a mess in 2 bedrooms and the dining room. I cut in the dining room, sew in one bedroom, and lay it all out on the bed in the other bedroom. Last night we had company for dinner and I had to move the cutting mat, rulers, fabric, etc then clean all the fabric scraps and fuzz off everything....we should have just ate in the living room off TV trays ! LOL
ReplyDeleteHow LOVELY!!! I really love how this quilt has progressed - using BOTH triangles & circles - BRILLIANT!
ReplyDeleteAnd no, you are NOT alone in the trashing sewing space when working. I find myself putting off projects when my sewing room is clean - because I make such a mess!! (REALLY need to get over that!)
whoo! love that triangles and circles border in particular - great choice. lots of fun. Across the Garden - that's the best I've got. I'm terrible at naming quilts. Oh and yes, must audition as many fabrics as possible - that's the fun part.
ReplyDeleteI should send a photo of my sewing corner ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou made another wonderful top and included some romance, too ;-)
They'll probably come alive when no one's looking , you know, like in Toy Story
Ohhhh!!! That triangle and circle border is amazing. I love all the little bits, like the two lovers searching in the garden. But I'm also loving that golden Honey Child print bringing such a great energy to the outside border. Fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That triangle and circle border adds even more excitement, while the blue borders pull it all together and contain everything nicely. Beautiful, beautiful quilt! Oh, yes, my sewing room is a MESS when I'm choosing fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you went with both circles and triangles....AWESOME! And I love those fussy cut lady and gentlemen dots.....so fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, and meant to add.....maybe the name of the quilt could be "Meet me in the garden, my Love!" :o)
ReplyDeleteNo, no, non sei l'unica...anche da quest'altra parte del globo succede la stessa cosa....
ReplyDeleteBellissimo questo tuo quilt!!!!
Ciao
No you aren't the only one who pulls a hundred fabrics just to find the perfect one,. My sewing room often looks like a fabric explosion happened.

ReplyDeleteWow! I can't tell you how much I love this quilt! Seriously. I love the extra borders - they are perfect. Great job Rachael!
ReplyDeleteLOL - who owns the garden the lady and the gent might meet in? The lady?
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've had a great deal of fun with that piece!
My crafting area always looks like a mess - various of my favourite tools/etc live on the sewing table all the time, and there's always knitting around and stuff I'm doing for work....
I'm in the midst of tidying my sewing space - you're not the only messy one believe me ;o) Love the quilt top - did you appliqué the circles? They look so perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt top!! I think your "Martha Washington" corners are great, and the triangles and circles are quite inspired. Just super!
ReplyDeleteYes, you should call it "meet me in the garden" - that would be fun!
Hand quilting this would be the perfect finish.
You are so clever. This is fabulous
ReplyDeleteOOOhh it gets better and better! Love the circles and triangles and then the blue frame.
ReplyDeleteThe shots of black are really great.
What a fun and wonderful quilt you are creating!
This has grown beautifully. Every addition has been wonderful. Stunning fabric choices!
ReplyDeleteI just love the stories you stitch into your quilts. I still think about that windmill one where the flaps lifted up and there were suprises to look for underneath. What a merry dance you lead us.
ReplyDeleteI love the borders you picked. The man and woman circles are such a fun thing that just add to the light heartedness of the quilt. Perle cotton will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour medallion looks awesome, I love what you've done. It even has some of your signature quirkiness in the form of the man/ woman fabric.
ReplyDeleteLooking great, and loving your blue lovers :o)
ReplyDeleteFan-bloody-tastic Rachael !!!! I knew you wouldn't disappoint... I would love to see it in real life...maybe next years Sydney Show???? haha

Mess? What mess? Creativity doesn't happen in a vacuum. I make a mess every day! LoVE that dotty triangular border. I think Gwen would , too. It is unique! Enjoy the quilting and all the memories this quilt holds for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever theme for the quilt with those little fussy cut people (adam and eve perchance?). The quilt top looks truly liberated and gorgeous!
ReplyDeletebeautiful! love the circle and triangle combo - yes "meet me in the garden" sounds like a perfect name for this quilt! My room is always a mess too and I tend to "stack" things instead of putting them away!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this quilt! You have done a wonderful job and your hand quilting will be the perfect addition. What a wonderful class that must have been.
