Daisy Chain
My friend Suzee of AppleHead Threads and I were chatting about dandelions recently.
It made me think of the daisy chains I'd make when I was a little girl. The next sunny day I was out and about looking for dandelions and this is what I made.

I left my necklace of flowery sunshine hanging in a tree at the bottom of the garden. That's where the fairies live. I'm sure they would have had fun using it as a garland.
When was the last time you made a daisy chain?

The last time I made a daisy chain was probably before you were born! My sister Helen and I often reminisce about those days! Do little kids of today even know about them? Maybe the fairies will leave you a little surprise at the bottom of the garden?☺
ReplyDeleteThey look so lovely and colourful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos.
I certainly can remember, which is sad on so many levels ;) sat with my bestfriend from high school at our local oval while waiting for our high school crushes to walk past so we could both go ...ohhhh, we killed time making daisy chains :)
ReplyDeleteProbably last week before Mr mowed the lawn. I have Miss 4 who thinks Daisy chains rock so she picks the flowers and I make them for her.
ReplyDeleteI must tell her to leave the chain in the garden for the fairies. She'll like that :)
I made one quite recently with my kids actually! We used the little seaside daisies growing in our garden. I love them. They remind me of spending hours with the kids next door seeing who could make the longest chain when I was a child in England. Did you know that fairies paint the tips of daisy petals pink at night?
ReplyDeleteMillemille anni fa anch'io facevo le ghirlande con i fiori, sarebbe bello rifarne ancora....รจ che mi spiace troppo, mi sembra di far loro del male....
ReplyDeleteCiao
Not in a very long time!
ReplyDeleteNow you need to make one with daisies!!!
When I was a student and we were sitting out on the grass 'studying' ;o)
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was younger, maybe 10-12 years ago, but I ought to do that again ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think I need to go outside and make one right now!!! =D
ReplyDeleteThe fairies must have rejoiced the day you moved in. Someone who appreciates their ways and leaves presents in the garden--that's hard to find these days.
ReplyDeletethanks for the trip down memory lane - I remember making them as a kid - sitting on the lawn on a sunny day :) and the fairies would have had a wonderful time - I figure those flower heads would be nice and comfy to sleep on :)
ReplyDeleteI think I was 12 years old. I do love these flowers though!! Thanks for sharing!! Hugs
ReplyDeleteI remember doing this as a little girl too. We did it with violets too. did you remember to smudge some on your chin? I was just telling my son yesterday the saying "Mommy had a baby and it's head popped off" as you pop the flower off. What a horrid thing for children to say and do!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever made a fairy ring in the grass with crocus bulbs? it's easy and so fun the next spring.
I think you should of had taken a pic of you with it on!!!! =)
ReplyDeleteOh this brought back so many memories of my childhood (which was the last time I made a daisy chain)
ReplyDeleteI am sure the garden fairies appreciated your offering.
You've brought back fabulous memories. I last made a daisy chain when I was a child, must make one again.
ReplyDeleteYears and years ago was the last time...in the girl across the roads back yard when we were kids! Lovely memories Rachael...and your chain looks so neat!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to make daisy chains with my best girlfriend when I was young. She passed away from brear cancer almost two years ago and the world lost a lovely person. Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteHi, Rachael. Yes, the simple things in life like dandelions. I've been blowing dandelion seeds with my grandchildren lately. That's rather fun!
ReplyDeleteLOVED your triangle quilt in the previous post--glorious fabrics and the colors are to die for! Looks like you've got your creative mojo back.
best, nadia
Last summer actually , and I took a picture of it for some reason ... just cos it looked so pretty I suppose. Loving that quilt in your last post. Great blog. XCathy

Too cute, the boys and I like making those too :-)
ReplyDeleteNovember/December last year while trying to occupy a little girl while her brother played cricket with my son. Ours were made of clover though. Does that still count? We mad a whole set - necklace, bangle and ring. It kept her busy for ages while her dad was halping with the cricket stuff. I think we even made ones for hor dollies.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for leaving me a comment. Your kind words encourage me to keep sharing my work and stories.
