Parrots in the Garden
I had a little stroll around our garden.
We've let the pumpkin plants do their own thing, and they've grown everywhere! It's one big pumpkin party out there!! Pumpkin vines here... pumpkin vines there...
pretty pumpkin flowers everywhere!!
The next two photos are Alocasia plants. As I walk past I like to say " Hello Casia".
This next one is called a Bat Wing Alocasia. How perfect! The leaves would great in a Halloween floral display. They look quite surreal.
The pink Kangaroo Paw plant is waving at you!
Beautiful succulent!
We planted lots of sunflower seeds just outside my sewing room window. A few days later there were lots of holes in the garden bed. The pesky birds had eaten our seeds! With visions of a mass of sunny faces keeping me company while I sewed, we planted another round of seeds. This time 5 little seedlings popped up. I've been watching their progress every day and this week the yellow petals unfurled to reveal this beauty!! Good morning Sunshine!!
So... Where are the parrots? All day long we have parrots flying around our garden. Squarking and hooting and chattering. We have sweet little finches that flitter around. There's some cute little black birds that hop around it the happiest way. My favourite is a pair of zebra striped pigeons that often visit late in the afternoon. I've tried in vain to take photos of all my feathered friends but they fly away if I bring my camera out.

So to make up for it I'll show you a photo of a skirt I made recently... It's just a simple A line skirt, but...

ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking great. Everything is growing so well. Lots of rain helps!
ReplyDeleteThose birds in your garden have no consideration for you and your camera - they only have to sit still for 10 seconds for you to snap them! (Not going to happen!)
Gorgeous fabric in your skirt.
Lol, love your garden, oh to live somewhere to be able to grow all those things (to be able to grow anything actually!) Love your nod to the parrots ;o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous garden you must have! Plenty of pumpkin soup and scones coming up, I hope! Everything is wilting in the heat down here today!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden. A row on sunflowers outside of your sewing room window would be a glorious thing. Glad the second round survived the hungry birds. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is beautiful! It's just what I need to see when it is -16 here plus the wind chill makes it about -25, a cold winter night.
ReplyDeleteWow, Rachael.....your garden is gorgeous! It's so exotic.....with plants I've never seen or heard of! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteAnd your skirt is sweet, too!
The garden is doing great. At least something to show for all the rain. The parrots on your skirt lookas though they taken to roosting in the trees. Funky!!

ReplyDeleteHere a pumkin, there a pumkin, every where a pumpkin-pumpkin ;) love your garden.
ReplyDeleteI love sunflowers they are such happy faces :-) I love your skirt too, what pattern did you use? I seem to be changing shape these days and an a line skirt is quickly becoming a favourite to grab from the wardrobe, I need a nice pattern though as I would much rather make my own than buy one. I've been pretty lucky at the OP shop so far!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is gorgeous!!!!!!! We've been having some winter weather here, so it was so nice to see some sunshine, flowers, and plants!! Enjoy your new skirt =D
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful garden! It's so refreshing to see all these lovely plants. I'm looking at bare trees with just the slightest buds, and frost on the ground. Thank you for warming up my day!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is beautiful. I love seeing pumpkins growing wild and the sunflowers are so cute.
ReplyDeleteI can totally imagine you in the skirt of parrots. Very you!
I hope you have lots of pumpkin recipes to further enjoy these!! Love your decorative plants. Try laying an old mesh/lacy type curtain over the top of your sunflower seeds next time you plant as this will let the warmth and some sunlight through until they germinate and help prevent the parrots stealing them. Nylon works best as they don't like the taste or texture but they'll have a try at chewing through cotton.
ReplyDeleteCheers,

I bet the skirt looks amazing with the daisy jacket.
ReplyDeleteI would not expect anything other than wonder - full in a garden of yours. It is full of smiles everywhere.
Dont know what it is about birds lately but when the camera is even thought about they vanish.
Bello il tuo giardino, peccato che non sei riuscita ad immortalare gli uccellini....meno male che si possono vedere sulla gonna...รจ splendida!

Lovely garden! Those pumpkin vines & flowers are wonderful. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen my sister & bro-in-law moved to Australia, Judy put up one of those bird seed things on the edge of her patio. In their happiness at having those seeds to eat, they flung quite a few of them into Judy's flower bed & soon enough there were sunflowers & other things popping up! Hope more of them come up for you too. :)
Thank you so much for leaving me a comment. Your kind words encourage me to keep sharing my work and stories.
