Pockets full of Posies

What do you think of my new header? I thought it was about time I had a change.

Anyway, here's that little flower I showed a few posts ago

And here is the rest of the garden.
A lot of the flowers are just pinned in place and I'm slowly appliquing them down, and having fun decorating with stitches, so this is still very much a work in progress.
For the flowers I've mostly used wool felt and added some cotton fabrics for variety and pattern.
The pockets don't stand out very well in the photograph but are much more obvious in real life. I'm hoping my plans for hand quilting will help highlight them even more.

The fires continue to rage throughout the Blue Mountains. It's been truely heartbreaking hearing tragic stories about people losing their homes and properties. The firemen and rescue workers are doing an amazing job and although homes have been burnt down or damaged no lives have been lost.
Lucky for us our area has been safe so far. If it looks at all like we may be affected we'll play it safe and leave straight away.

  19. Oh man, Rachael, your pocket quilt does not disappoint! It looks fantastic. The bright, simple flowers and denim remind me so much of the early 70s (when we all said "man" at the beginning or end of every sentence, btw).

I am glad you are still well, and continue to wish everyone the best. Happy stitching!

Your pockets full of posies is such a clever wall hanging! You are so creative! I think the hand quilting will be just the thing to make those pockets stand out. What a great way to use up the rest of those jeans you used for the quilt.

Your header is very colorful and whimsical, and the perfect compliment to your blog name and affinity for sewing.

  32. Oh where to start?!! You have been so busy! You are so creative Rachael - what a clever way to use denim pockets!! I've been outside in the garden a lot lately, but I think I prefer your flower garden to mine! I LOVE your new header and the stitching on your flowers. I am immensely glad that the area in which you live is safe; my heart leaps whenever I hear the updates on the fires in the Blue Mountains (and other places). So glad there has been no loss of life.

Which area in the mountains are you? We're keeping an eye on the Wilton fire on the next days. I hope it won't be necessary for you to evacuate.

  46. I just love what you have done with the pockets! Mixing felt and cotton fabrics will be a wonderful addition of texture and contrast with the denim. Great job with the header. That stuff always defeats me. I just need to wait until my son is older and I am sure he will be able to figure it out for me! (he is 8 so I don't imagine it will be long before he has the computer mastered)
