Blue Jeans and Moonbeams
By now most of you know I can be a cheeky pixie and quite often my quilts have a sneaky twist of some sort. Well, my Happy Memories quilt from the last post does indeed have a surprise for you.
It's actually the backing...
For my Blue Jeans and Moonbeams quilt
I think of this quilt as a mix of Happy as A Clam ...
and my Colour Undercover quilt.
Blue Jeans and Moonbeams was my entry in the Modern Category of the 2016 Sydney Show.
I wrote in my quilt description: "Sometimes you have to follow an idea no matter how odd it seems. Recycled denim scallops intermingled with fun fabrics, overlapping and cascading."
Yes I know this is not your usual quilt. It would be too heavy and flippy floppy for a bed quilt but it makes an eye catching wall hanging hanging with either the denim scallops or the happy memories side at the front.
But there's another side to this quilt,
a wild side that likes to dance.
Upside down, sideways and all around,
revealing different colours and fabrics.
You can see what a fun and playful quilt this is,
even if it is a bit odd.
PS. Thank you to Mr Daisy for braving a cold winters day to help me take photos. What a gem!!

ReplyDeleteIt's a THREE sided quilt!! What fun to see it--and you--enjoying a cold winter's day. It's great to see the scale of this quilt, much bigger than I'd thought! All delightful and original. Bravo!!

A surprise indeed!! Such fun. Thanks Mr Daisy for delightful photos. You have managed to put sooo many colours into that quilt! Wow.........STUNNING!!
ReplyDeleteI'd have that on my bed or settee anywhen at all!
ReplyDeleteIt would like laying beneath the magical scales of a beautiful textile mystical creature lol
Perfect!
Oh I love life's little surprises! I think the back of a quilt deserves as much attention as the front. After all we are not all one sided (I hope). This is not only a fantastic quilt, but it would make a wonderful bird costume if worn as a cape!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't quite believe what I was reading - that this was the back pot a quilt!! I love Blue Jeans and Moonbeams, what a wonderful name and idea for this beauty. Love the photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and ingenious quilt!! So full of surprises!! I love how the denim scallops set off the beautiful fabrics (I really love the bird print!) Are you ever going to hang it upside down so you can enjoy the backs of the scallops? :-) And you are the cutest!!! Seeing how much fun you had trying to show us the other side of your quilt put a smile on my face! :-) No wonder your Mr.Daisy fell in love with you: I can see from your pictures that you have such a fun personality. I'm sure you keep life bright and happy for him! Have a wonderful week and stay warm down there, and we'll try and stay cool up here! :-D Hugs, H

ReplyDeleteTis just gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous quilt back, and what a wonderful front of the quilt. And the model really showcases how much fun this quilt is.
ReplyDeleteYou are a delightful pixie full of surprises whirling and twirling. I thought you were going to show a pic of Mr Daisy's jeans with a clam shape out out of it.
ReplyDeleteSooo which is more darling...You..or the quilt...OMG..just cannot decide..( I really did decide...You win!!!)
ReplyDeleteCome with me and we will dance the fandango! Again you elevate your "quilts" into Art......yes that's art with a capital ARRRRrrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteI always have to laugh when I hear that expression...."what a gem" to which my witty reply is " why yes, should have been dug up years ago"
Your fabric play is exquisite and there is a photo there that makes you look like a bird spreading those wonderful wings. Keep flying high little pixie.
Lovely quilt and great photos! Now. What temperature was your cold winter's day?
ReplyDeleteYou look cute in your hat and scarf, love your coat.
Fun quilt and fun photos! I do like how the scallops dance, and you've got some pretty good moves too. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the fun!
Amazing quilt, amazing girl !XXX
ReplyDeleteOh yes you are the cheeky pixie lol with that quilt! It is very beautiful and I love how you have so much fun with it!
ReplyDeleteThat is cheeky - but what fun!! Love it. Ditto the thanks to Mr Daisy.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see the delight in quilting is still with you. I remember a quilt back of yours that caught my attention and started our friendship. . Both sides of this are lovely and happy and fun. I 'm wondering where it might live? Great photo shoot.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect example of following an idea! Not all quilts are bed quilts, something that gets lost in the process all too often. This would make a perfect quilt for a small child--so much to discover and to enjoy. It certainly speaks of the childlike quality so important to creating. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteYou always think of something different; great!
