Desert to Sea book Giveaway!
I know I've been a quiet blogger of late but it's Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day and I've taken part in every Giveaway Day for the last 5 years so I couldn't let one go by without joining in.
Today I'm giving away a copy of Desert to Sea: 10 Quilts from Australian Designers.
(If you already have a copy of the book there's something for you too so keep reading)
This description of the book sums it up perfectly,
"Take a journey to the great Land Down Under … Ten beautiful, eclectic quilts designed by eight inspirational Australian quilters, reflective of the bountiful colour and beauty of the Australian landscape and culture. Quilt patterns to entice and challenge passionate quilters to make unique quilts that will bring a little of the Land Down Under into your home. Betty Kerr, Charlotte Dumesny, Danielle Aeuckens, Jane Davidson, Lorena Uriarte, Cathy Underhill, Rachaeldaisy and Jeannette Bruce, bring to you quilts made with their favourite techniques, injected with a piece of their own personalities and style. Compiled by Jane Davidson."
Here are some photos of the my quilt Ric Rac Razzamatazz that is one of the 10 projects in the book.
With a very cute koala!!
Now I know a lot of awesome people have already raced out and bought Desert to Sea (thank you!) so to make it fair if the random selector picks someone who already has a copy of the book I'll make them a special custom made mini quilt instead.
But wait, there's more!
I think we all agree parcels are more fun padded with fabric. To tie in with the Aussie theme I'll include some Australian town name text fabric.
This giveaway is now closed - Thank you to all of you who entered!! Congratulations to Bea of une aiguille dans une botte de foin blog for being selected as the winner.
If you're interested in getting Desert to Sea ( it's a great book full of fabulous colourful Australia quilts) you can purchase it here from Amazon or ask at your local book shop or quilt shop.

I follow on Bloglovin'/email. but I really just like to hear about your journey in fabrics. I like Australian quilts that seem to have a historical background, still learning about your country re bloggers and you KNOW who one in particular is!!
ReplyDeleteFavourite things about Australia have to be friends and the memories they have given us of your country. Loved all the cities we visited: Sydney ( several visits but one coincided with Australia Day and a concert in the park),Melbourne ( including New Year's Eve fireworks!) and Adelaide. I think Tasmania was my favourite place and would love to go back one day - still so much to see. Love watching the Australian Tennis Open which I would love to go to instead of watching on TV.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness did I know you were in a book??? My memory isn't the greatest, lol....congratulations, how awesome is that, and how awesome is that quilt!!!!! I do follow you, on The Old Reader, and I think google friendconnect.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about Aussie designers - just how blinkin' creative you all are!!!! I almost moved to Sydney when I was in my mid-20's, but blew my chance. Sigh. Thanks for the chance to win, Rachel!!!
I have loved every piece of Australian fabric I have seen. We love Australian tv shows - including all of the cooking shows that we are able to find, and dramas about police, or life, or hospitals. I am almost 70 so I am very unlikely to be able to visit your country, but both my hubbie and I try to learn as much as we can about it. The book looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI follow you with blog lovin' and GFC. I could not find a button to click to follow with feedly, which is the reader I check at least once a day....

ReplyDeleteA tiny little reason I love the Australian quilting community (other than the amazing amount of talent!) is that I can post a late night quilte IG photo - and I'll wake up to kind comments and little <3's from the other side of the world!
ReplyDeleteI love the accents.

What I like about Australian quilts is the essence of the country, colors and spirits shown. Bright colors, great symbols, bright whites at the auditorium in the bay, how Ellen D. And Oprah were received. Thank you

I love your quilt with the rick rack. How wonderfully adorned. I love the way the Aussies use color and prints in their quilts. Oh to be able to mix such colors and prints for a masterful quilt but I am working on it. I would love a copy of of the book.

ReplyDeleteI love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges ( especially the Blue ones) Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea. Her beauty and her terror, The wide brown land for me. Dorothea McKellar
ReplyDeleteI am following by email, and gfc/blogger. Yours is one of the first blogs I discovered! I think it was during SMS Day too.....
ReplyDeleteI'd love to travel to Australia one day. I love how you gals and guys use polka dots and prints, large and small florals, modern and traditional prints, all together and with abandon. Something with black and white too. I am enchanted by the Aboriginal paintings of the places they have lived as well, made up of all those tiny points of paint.

ReplyDeleteHi Rachael. What can I say about Australian quilters other than I love the fact that such a small country can produce so many talented ladies who feature on the world quilting scene. It must be something about our wonderful landscape and light and that we aren't bound by so much tradition.

ReplyDeleteWhat I love about Australian quilters is that they are not hidebound by tradition or by strict rules regarding colour or scale or how something should look, etc. They're prepared to subvert the rules & this gives their work a dynamic energy that is inspiring
