Things that add colour to my days
My international jet setting cover quilt arrived home today.
A photo shoot seemed to be the right way to welcome it home.
I love the way the Simply Moderne team have done the graphics and laid out the pattern.
And I think one of my favourite parts of seeing my quilts in magazines is seeing how someone else has styled them.
It's a great magazine overall. Heaps of photos and projects. I'm already keen to see what the next edition has in store for us. If you want to see a preview of the magazine or order a copy go to the Simply Moderne website here.

Our magnolia tree is full of blooms for the first time since we moved into our house 5 years ago. Each year just as the tree is about to flower a family of possums come along and has a feast of the buds. At first we thought it was really cute. While our neighbours tree is the glory of their garden ours would look just sad. But not this year. I don't know where the possums are but I'm happy they've left our tree alone this year. I keep popping out to admire the flowers.

I recently fell in love with a colourful Indian footstool. A big part of my attraction was the festive camel featured on one side. Camels are a favourite animal of mine and this one reminded me of the time I went on a camel trek in a desert in Rajasthan in India many years ago.
There was an elephant on the other side marching along with his trunk in the air.
and the top was a party of colour and mirror work.
I really couldn't justify getting a footstool, in fact I got rid of one recently and our house doesn't have room for more furniture so I decided to make do with photos of this merry one. I'll have to think about adding a camel to a quilt one day. There's always room for more quilts.

Here's a little experimental mini quilt I've been playing with. It's just a seed of an idea with more to be added. I'm showing you to prove I have been sewing, not much but a little bit, which is better than none.
I could say the same for my social media appearances. Joining Facebook last week and trying to remember to upload photos to Instagram have made me realise that I really just don't have as much time as I used to due to some changes in Daisyland this year. I'm hoping that you'll agree a little bit is better than nothing. Plus I need to save some time for sewing so I have things to show you otherwise there'll be more of these wintery tree photos and colourful footstools. :)

It must be so exciting seeing your quilts in print. Yes, the photo shoot was necessary. Boy, are you strong in not buying the footstool. I should learn to take a leaf out of your book. I can certainly see it being the inspiration of a nice, bright quilt. I love the magnolia. They are such a showing flower in a blousy way. I've never had any luck growing them, but there is a nice mature specimen beside the driveway at the little house we are in now, so I'm savouring it while I can. Have fun with your new quilt.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your beautiful cover quilt and yay for being possum free. Magnolias are very beautiful x
ReplyDeleteSqurcles are gorgeous ...still!
ReplyDeleteI am an elephants lover myself, and am collecting fabrics of the same, so there WILL be an elephant quilt in my house in the future. Good luck with your camels!
As cute as a family of possums sounds I am glad they have decided to reside elsewhere. Your magnolia blossoms are so beautiful! Eli and I took some time to sit outside in the sunshine today. I enjoyed all the beautiful blooms on our fruit trees - sometimes I am not still long enough to really notice such things. Oh yes - do a camel quilt!!
ReplyDeleteYour magnolia tree looks gorgeous. There is a beautiful one, the same colour, in the garden of a house round the corner from our UK home and neighbours two doors away have a white one. Often that tree is spoilt by a severe frost just as all the blooms are coming out. So disappointing. Enjoy your sewing. I also love Indian textiles and the footstool looked super. You were very strong willed but no doubt there is a camel and/or elephant in your future!
ReplyDeleteCamel rides in Rajasthan are the best aren't they?! I did quite a few when I was growing up there - one time the camel my Mum was on ran into a thorn bush and she fell off :( Your bubbles quilt is just wonderful - I especially love the fabric selections and colours :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always a treat to get back a project after so much time has passed. And that one is such a glorious one!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about how much you're posting, here and elsewhere. You will find the balance between real life stuff, sewing and sharing. And as readers, we will adjust to having a smaller bit of your output.
An arrival and a party for your quilt! It is always interesting to see how others see our work, like what were we/they thinking! That Footstool is a treat and I love shisha mirrors on anything. would send you some but they are SO heavy, the real ones at any rate. Maybe some on the next quilt? Those Magnolia trees are otherworldly, at least to my eyes, nothing like that where I grew up!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the quilt in print. It looks lovely the way they styled it - that is what the professionals are paid to do. What a sweet footstool, and the magnolia is splendid.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being Cover Girl Rachael - it's beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always filled with beautiful color! So glad you quilt is home safe and sound!
ReplyDeleteI did find the magazine and love it!
A little is certainly better than nothing. I can see you ideas from the footstool inspiring some of your sewing too! So nice to enjoy your flowering magnolia!
ReplyDeleteQuilt home safe and sound. Yeah! The photo shoot of magnolia and slivery tree against the crystal blue sky are great. We all have change and it usually has positive results. Enjoy the time you have.
ReplyDeleteI bought that magazine, especially so I could show everyone my lovely clever blogging friends work...just fabulous.

ReplyDeleteI love magnolias but sadly it's too warm and humid for them here. A little bit of blogging is definitely better than none, good to see you are still finding a little time for sewing. I'm not sure I have the same love for camels that you do, I've ridden one in UAE and didn't love it, but I do love your footstool.
ReplyDeleteNice to have your colorful baby home. Think of all the people who have admired her. Looks like spring is on its way. Glad the possums have let those magnolias bloom.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I can say, I knew you when...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the return home of your quilt! Ever since you shared it would be a covergirl I've looked for the magazine and found one last week! They photography is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love magnolias, although u grow up calling them tulip trees until I saw some in New Orleans and found out they were the same thing. Perhaps the opossums decided to reward you with your patience of their enjoying your tree by moving on to another tree. We have some of the white star magnolias growing in our city along its the purple larger flower ones. They are both so pretty!
Your time is best spent sewing rather than showing that you have sewn. Social media can really take over -- just do what you like.
ReplyDeleteI love your world-traveling quilt & agree it is charming in the magazine. I've been looking at it & wondering how to make it "me" -- because that quilt is so very "YOU"!
I'm pleased you are enjoying seeing your tree blossoms rather than them being snacks for marsupials!
Now how wonderful to have your quilt published. Congratulations! I think I would be in 7th heaven if that happened to me, but then you have to actually sit and do a quilt to have them take notice. I have been so caught up in the yarn stash for what seems like years, there has been no time to even play with fabric although I have bought several fat quarters and tucked them away. Your beautiful tree. Who would think that possums, of all creatures, would feast on the blooms. If you had asked a multiple choice question about that I would never have chosen those animals, lol. maybe they have a sweet taste?
ReplyDelete(((HUGS))) Susanne :)
Congrats for your beautiful quilt. Will you have more designs in Simply Moderne mag in the future, please ? I hope !!
ReplyDeleteYour bubbles quilt is just beautiful!! I love the way they set it too: so pretty and so wonderful that it is on the cover!!! :-) And so glad you're finally able to enjoy your Magnolia tree. :-) There was one on the corner by my daughters school and every spring it was just amazing!! Probably 40 ft tall! So it must be spring for you all: we're going to be heading into fall soon. :-) Have a great weekend!! Hugs, H
ReplyDeleteHi Rachael,oh i love this quilt and boy if it could only tell stories of its adventures, lol,i must get that mag my famous friend and i love magnolias, your tree is beautiful, hope you have a wonderful day my friend xx
ReplyDeleteHi Rachael, Glad your jet setting quilt made it safely home. Your magnolia has certainly shone this year. They are such beautiful flowers and have a lovely delicate perfume as well. Nice to hear from you. Bronwyn.
ReplyDeletetha magazine did a fabulous job with your quilt - it looks great! I would love a footstool like that one - now I have to go find one!! Thank you Rachael!!
ReplyDeleteTry posting on IG then share with FB. You only have to do it once.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are happy to have your beautiful quilt home. I too love to see how they style quilts.
ReplyDeleteThat footstool is amazing! You must have been very strong willed not to take it away with you -
Love the mirrored top and the elephant.
Lovely spring bloom on your magnolia tree!
xo
Woot! A quilt on the cover of a mag! Yay you!
ReplyDeleteBTW, Americans will think you mean opossums, which are a totally different kettle of fish to our possums - much meaner and not very nice animals all round...
Magnolias...... The smile of spring. They really should last longer. Never fails just as we are about in perfect bloom we get a down pouring spring rain and the blosooms are destroyed. Happy Spring to you.... We have pumpkins on the vine here. Fall is in the air. Janita
ReplyDeleteYou must be so happy and relieved that your baby is back home. Now you can snuggle up in it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blossoms on your tree - glad they were spared this year.
You gotta do what you can do. Nobody is expecting you to do it all all the time! Do as much or as little as you want to do. Don't be too hard on yourself! We're just always happy when you post!
Oh wow RAchael if only your beautiful quilt could talk and share the adventures of its travels....how cool would that be! You have very strong willpower in not buying that footstool but you can admire it from the photo when you need to....my sister n law believes sometimes a photo can be as good as the real thing! That sky is absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy place to visit on a Sunday night. You fill up my evening with all the colours and remind me of the magic that can happen with the sewing machine. Thank you for your comments on my blog...i too struggle to balance everything, the making and the sharing amidst the fullness of daily life. Folks will wait patiently for your posts, they are always delightful, always uplifting, always inspiring.
ReplyDeleteLove your cover quilt, very beautifully photographed and styled! I've never been near a magnolia to see what all the excitement is about. I'm fairly certain they don't like Adelaide weather - too hot and dry I think. I remember working with someone from NSW who was always lamenting not being able to have a magnolia tree here. So glad the possums gave you a break this year!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see this quilt again! Just yesterday, I had a group of non-quilter women at my house. I was showing them the magazine. They were especially fond of YOUR quilt!
ReplyDeleteSo happy your quilt is home safe and sound. Loved seeing the close up photos of your Bubbles as well as the mini quilt you are working on. Spring is such an inspiring season. Enjoy the blooms around the gardens. That foot stool is beautiful! I definitely see a quilt inspired by it emerging from your studio!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Got a copy of quiltmania mailed to me today! Your quilt is an amazing cover girl:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for leaving me a comment. Your kind words encourage me to keep sharing my work and stories.
