Behind the Scenes And Behind The Quilts.
The Springwood Show opens tomorrow at 11am, and it was all happening behind the scenes today as the quilts were being hung
I was up a ladder when it occured to me that us hangers not only get to enjoy unfolding the quilts but we also get to see lots of wonderful quilt backs too!! It's like a hidden quilt show where the behinds are as are as wonderful and diverse as the fronts.
How about these Super Stripes that show off the swirly quilting.
Lovely giant lime dots or Teeny tiny puppies
Floaty flowers
If I was a bird I'd want to be on this wonderful back.
The flowers on this backing looked real!
Of course there lots of quilts are backed with gorgeous reproduction fabrics.
and some use fabrics that are more contemporary.
There's colourful pieced backings
And here's one that looks a bit like a storm brewing.
Simple plain backings show off clever quilting.
Even when they're orange chenille!!
That's just that backs so you can imagine how amazing the fronts are!
As you can understand there's no general handling of the quilts but if you're curious about seeing the backing of any quilt then just ask the friendly White Glove Lady and she'll be able to show you.
I haven't even mentioned all the fun labels!
Come on down to the
Springwood Quilt Show
Friday , 11am-5pm
Saturday and Sunday , 10am-4pm
Springwood High School, Grose Rd, Faulconbridge.
Yay!!

One day I am going to come to the Springwood Quilt Show! You make it sound so enticing and exciting Rachael! The backs look as wonderful as I am sure the fronts do! Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteSounds like it has the makings of a great day out. Enjoy yourself, and I hope things run smoothly for you all.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go if I lived closer. I hope you will be giving us our own private viewing once the show is over!
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos! I really enjoyed seeing all the backs and the varied fabrics and quilting. But my favourite photo is the last one. I LOVE your label!
ReplyDeleteIf only I could! You know how I love a fun backing and these are great.
ReplyDeleteHave fun! Can't wait to see photos of the fronts.
I loved see the backs of those quilts. There's some creative quilters who have fun with their back art. Can't wait to see the fronts!
ReplyDeleteI loved your reverse quilt show, Rachael, with such varied and vibrant backs. I've always thought that the backing is (almost) as important as the front of a patchwork quilt, and judging by the creativity in these I think the quilters of the Blue Mountains agree.
ReplyDeleteFun backs on those quilts! Enjoy the show! It would have been fun to hang out with you by your quilt there. Looking forward to you sharing the show!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I guess some of the best fabrics go on the back, as those are often the ones which don't get cut up... Have a great time there.
ReplyDeleteFun post Rachael! I am such a cheater for the backs of my quilts--clearance fabrics and leftovers all the way.:)
ReplyDeleteI wish. Those are some very beautiful backings and I love the label. Have a fun and successful show.
ReplyDeleteOh I like this. It is a kind of deconstructed view of quilts, like looking at the seams of dresses. How curious what goes on behind the quilt. Your quilt labels are becoming more and more an extension of the quilt. Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteFun sneak peek! Hope it goes well :o)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful show! Your labels are such fun :)
ReplyDeleteLoved your quilt label, and if I were in Springwood I would love to see the show. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely way to view quilts differently. And a lot of fun. Love your label!
ReplyDeleteDo hope we'll see some photos of the fronts too ...please:) Sadly I can't make it up there this year - hope it goes wonderfully well for you all!
ReplyDeleteWhat great backs! The backs are often forgotten, but can show off quilting so nicely. I wish I could attend!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time. I love looking at the backs of quilts as they add an extra dimension to the quilt and compliment it. Thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteI know you will be having a great time being a Quilt Angel, hanging quilts and then, of course, taking them down at the end of the Show. For 9 years I was a Quilt Angel at the Festival of Quilts, Birmingham, UK. Hard work but super to be able to be up close to the quilts. Love your photos of the quilt backs, quite a variety. Enjoy yourself, Rachael.
ReplyDeleteHeh, they got the spelling of Grose Road wrong - it should be Grouse Road for all of the really grouse quilts!
ReplyDeleteI love backs too!! Sometimes more than the fronts. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your label!
love
ReplyDeleteLoved this different take on the quilt show. I think people spend a huge amount of time choosing complimentary backs for their quilting creations and its a pity they dont get more adulation!
ReplyDeleteI had such fun looking at these when you posted the other day. I was going to ask you to show the fronts too-- but you did! Really cool to see all the work behind the scenes!
ReplyDeleteYour octopus's garden quilt label is so cute and fun--I don't remember seeing it when you did the beachy quilt shoot for it. Did you reveal it before?
ReplyDeleteI have only had the pleasure of going to two quilt shows in my life--the first one was many many years before I learned to sew (translation: my 20's). Then I went to one a couple months ago and one of the quilts was actually hung so the back was visible instead of the front. It was a pieced back and the curator of the show thought it should show instead!
Loved seeing all the backs Rachael! What a great show!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for leaving me a comment. Your kind words encourage me to keep sharing my work and stories.
