The Unveiling...

...of my latest quilt top.
Conversation, 60 x 60 inches, is the result of playing with Jess Wheelahan's Text/Type fabrics
I chose to make blocks of simple geomentic shapes to allow room for the kinetic energy of the fabrics.

Just for fun I played around with different photo effects.

Lighter and Brighter
Black and White - Dramatic!

Neutralising the neutrals.

Spot lit in the dark

Rusty Sepia tones of yesteryear

Upside down!

Here's a close up of the big triangle fabric. I'm a "put a bird on it" kinda gal so here's the bird of this quilt.

and I didn't want him to be lonely so I added a friend.
My plan for quilting includes lots of big stitches adding more geometric shapes - circles in the squares, squares in the triangles and triangles in the circles.  I've got some tapestry yarns that I'm hoping will work as I'd like the stitches to be really bold and chunky. We'll see, I find these things have a way of evolving.

Just a reminder - You can get Jess's fabulous screen printed Text/Type fabrics from Material Obsession. The red bird fabric came from there too but I'm not sure what it's called, doh!

Yea! You've made something completely original with simple blocks and the retro feel of this print. It's got very mid-century modern feel, which is a perfect way to showcase this print. Your work always dazzles me, and this is no exception!

wish I had just a portion of the talent you have to put together something so graphic in such a short amount of time. I love the sepia tones, being an autumn person.

You are so good at this, Rachael! You have a wonderful knack for making an asymmetrical quilt, but keeping it balanced. Perfect use of the fabric, too.

I was expecting something more neutral, so this is an excellent surprise! I love the bird too. :D

Wow-I could look at this for hours and not get bored. It's like a grown up version of I spy! Beautiful!

Fantastic Rachael! Did it take long to come up with a design or did the fabrics whisper sweet nothings in your ear? I think the tapestry thread will add a wonderful texture. It will be a quilt just begging to be touched.

Wow! It feels like Brian Wildsmith meets Picasso's Guernica. There is just so much energy in there. I wonder if that comes from a restricted colour palette or the variety of geometrics...it is almost vibrating!

Look at how wonderful it has turned out. The shapes are so big and bold. Such a great choice for this fabric.
I am looking forward to the quilting too, especially as I thought the last post was it.

Awesome quilt! Wow, you blow me away with your talent, Rachael! What a unique vision you have. This design works so well with this fabric, and it's very innovative! Great graphic appeal, and very mid-century mod too. I love the fun you had with Photoshop (or whatever you used to tweak the colors). Every version looks fab!

Your quilting will make a big difference in this too. I can't wait to see how those threads will look with this!
