Happy Scrappy Spring Fling Skirt.
I made a skirt!! I really chuffed with myself because I often think about making skirts, and I talk about making skirts, I buy patterns and fabrics for skirts but for some reason I never really get around to making them.
A few things prompted me to finally get skirting.
Firstly a parcel of fabulous fabrics my friend Melissa P of 100 Billion Stars arrived in my mail box.
A selection of pieces from Jenean Morrison's Beechwood Park range.
Secondly daffodil in my garden announced that it is Spring. How better to celebrate than with a new
skirt!
And thirdly I recently came across a pattern for a Happy Scrappy Skirt , love that name.
It's simple but it's fun and it lets the fabric do the talking.
I didn't quite have enough to go all round so I had to get a bit creative with piecing. I wear the pieced part on the side and I think it adds interest, it is a Happy Scrappy skirt after all.
That big scale print would make an awesome border on a quilt! I love the way the flowers look as though they're floating over each other. Very groovy!!
I know clothes on hangers are a bit lifeless so here I am modelling in the garden.
So there you go, proof that I made a skirt! And now you'll know what I'll be wearing on sunny Spring days.
There were some other fabulous fabrics in Melissa P's parcel - She know's I'm a fan of Jane Sassaman's fabrics and this is Jane's latest range - Wild Child...
Have a guess at what I've made with them. I'll send a surprise to anyone who guess correctly.

I would never have guessed there was enough fabric in that parcel to make such a delightful skirt! It turned out beautifully. I'm sure there will be more to come, once the weather starts to get warmer for you.
ReplyDeleteVery excited to see how the Wild Child fabrics turn out!
Great fabrics!
ReplyDeleteDid you make a tote or zippered pouch with the JS fabrics??
Such beautiful fabric!! The skirt looks great on you! PS. What gorgeous hair you have!
ReplyDeleteYour skirt looks fabulous Rachael and its totally your style.
ReplyDeleteDid you make a summer hat to go with the skirt?
Your skirt looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt! You have used the fabrics very creatively! Did you make a house block? I would love to see that quilt again!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty :o) Slightly jealous that you get clear blue skies in spring, we haven't even got that in summer lol
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and a pretty skirt! I love your hat! Did you make a bag?
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your skirt and fabrics Rachael. Perhaps you made another one!
ReplyDeleteYour skirt looks great, and I love those Wild Child fabrics too. There are a lot of nice pieces posted last week on the Sassaman blog made with them.
ReplyDeleteBut, my first thought was that you made another skirt, so that's my guess!
Love your skirt! It looks just like a rachael skirt! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour skirt looks great on you, well done. Maybe we'll see some more now that you got over that first one. I bet you're going to play with some hexies with the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteCute skirt!
ReplyDeleteI think you fussy cut the wild child and made, umm, hexies from it :-)
Your new skirt is perfect on you! Very fun fabrics and clever placement. Bet you can't make just one!
ReplyDeleteYour Happy Scrappy Skirt is fabulous. I bet you feel so good wearing that! I can't even begin to image what you made with the rest of your fabric, but I'm sure it was fun.:)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt! I hope you sat straight down and made another one :) It looks great on you - but I'm amazed so little fabric could make a skirt so long!
ReplyDeleteWow lovely, it looks great on you. Hope the sunny weather continues.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, I hope you have been enjoying these sunny days even if the nights and mornings are cold.
ReplyDeleteYour skirt turned out great! I think the piece you added is perfect addition to the design. Wear it with pride.
ReplyDeleteThat skirt was made for you...and yes it was...by you...so that is not really going where I wanted it to go! I am full of cold and apparently am unable to write! I guess Swoon Town.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it! Now that I've seen it, I don't think I'd like it near as much if you hadn't added the pieced bit in! How beautiful is your garden!! I'm going to guess that you made something other than a quilt with Wild Child, so...sewing machine cover or tea cosy?
ReplyDeleteYou make the loveliest things! The skirt is beautiful and I love how you made it even more patchwork-y to have enough to go around. How appropriate for a quilter! You look gorgeous in it!
ReplyDeleteHow how funny you love Jane Sassaman fabric! I was just looking at it on sale online and thinking of buying it. I just love the black and white harlequin print. I saw it in a mock up a quilt made with this line and it looks so cool, not like how I would have imagined it to look cut in a strip. It is a good visual effect.
I have no idea what you made but I'm guessing tablerunner so you can put a vase of daffodils on it:)
Fabulous skirt! I have several pieces of fabric set aside for skirts - you might just have inspired me to make a start
ReplyDeleteCheers
