What's been happening...

Here's an update of what's been happening in my sewing room ...

I've mostly been spending my sewing time hand quilting my Dollop of Cream quilt. I really want to get it finished before being distracted by other projects and you know how easily I can get distracted!

I've sewed little crosses to fill in some areas of the quilt. It adds some variety to all the normal straight stitches.

One day I needed a splash of colour so I had a go at making yo yo's.  They're so quick and fun to make. I like the idea of making a chain of them to hang up somewhere.

My dresdens are still lurking on the design wall...

I haven't done any more with them except decide not to add the triangle borders. They just looked wrong, out of balance with the rest of the quilt.

I'm now thinking it would be fun to applique, or piece some teapots and cups with some words. I'll make a decision when I finish quilting the cream quilt.  I owe it to those cute, little ,smiley pots and pans to get the borders right.

My Scrappy Trips quilt top ended up 84 x 96 inches. I'm going to leave it for Tanya the longarm quilter to do her magic with it. I have a few quilts waiting for hand quilting and I'd rather spend my quilting time working on those than struggle with a huge quilt and a domestic machine. I love the way Scrappy Trips looks on the bed, so bright and colourful!

So that's about it on the sewing front at the moment. Hopefully I'll have a finished cream quilt to show you soon!

Your dollop of cream quilt is looking gorgeous with all of those wonderful hand stitches (love the name too BTW) Ive been enjoying a bit of hand quilting too lately although it does get a bit sweaty sitting under a big quilt whilst stitching - thems the breaks! x

Love the addition of the cross stitches on the Dollop of Creme quilt. They're just the right thing.

I still can't get over how large your Scrappy Trip quilt is! It's going to be even more stunning after it's quilted.

Dollop of Cream - what a perfectly delicious quilt, Rachael! And you are right to leave the dresdens until you have time to devote to it! I'm quilting my Scrappy Trip today, but mine is only 60" square! I hope to have my first finish for the year soon!

LOL - you have put birds on your Dollop of Cream quilt!
I must make a scrappy tripalong. I am being terribly slow about it - I am afraid to cut into some of my treasured fabrics, so I really should just get out a bunch that I don't like so much and have at it! That seems to work well for the rest of the quilting world...

Rachael,

Your hand quilting is gorgeous! Those various stitches on the quilt adds so much interest. I love the birds dancing around there too.
Your design wall looks beautiful with those dresdens and the funny pots and pans.
I think I am sending my zigzag out to get quilted too. Don't know if I can handle such a huge quilt myself.
Happy weekend!

Everything is so beautiful! Dollop of cream is gorgeous....those little birds are so sweet! And the quilting is awesome on it, too! The crosses are so cute! The yoyos are so pretty in those colors! They'd be gorgeous as a garland hanging around the porch! And those pots and pans with the dresden plates is fantastic! So 40's! Love that! Your trips quilt is beautiful, and yeah....a definite 'send to the longarmer' if ever there was one! You'll get to enjoy it just that much sooner!

As I'm typing this, your button of "I am a sunflower" is next to it, and YES you are! You just brightened my day! Thanks!

Love that little bird...its so cute. And your hand quilting is fabulous.

And oh my goodness – your scrappy quilt is GORGEOUS! Utterly divine.

I bought a yoyo maker months ago and still haven’t used it. I think that might be a winter project so I can sit in front of the telly and hand sew.

After reading this post yesterday and then sleeping on the thought I arrived at a bowl of fruit salad with a "dollop of cream".
Variety and colour and passion fruit pips adding crunch to the creaminess post.
Been wracking my brains trying to remember where the pots and pans characters are from. Even husbeast recognised them but couldnt remember. So that means it must be back from the dark ages - lol.
Have decided that I am definitely going to make a scrappy trip. The start of me letting go of control.

So not much on then... ;o) Love the birds on your dollop of cream and the fab bright yo-yos

The scrappy trips do look great on the bed. You could spend a lot of time looking for certain fabrics. Your dollop of cream looks wonderful. Your quilting has added great texture. I do however have a soft spot for the birdies.

LOVE your Dollop of Cream quilt! Making a low volume quilt is on my list for this year - might have to change it to a cream quilt (or just do one of each!). I really love the gentleness of your quilt, while still being really interesting. Adding the little birds is genius!
