Yay! It's Blogger's Quilt Festival time!! What could be better than seeing lots of beautiful quilts from all around the world and hearing the stories behind them, with the bonus of finding new bloggy friends.

Today I'm sharing my version of a pattern by Chris Jurd called Mariner's Garden.

The paper pieced center is a scrap attack of blues and greens. I didn't have an overall plan when choosing my colours. I had a lot of blues and greens so figured that was a good start. When it came to choosing a background I thought I'd use orange or yellow, something sunny and bright, but when trying those options they just fell flat, but the purple really made the center pop.

The flowers in the setting triangles were my first attempt at applique and far from perfect, but I'm okay with that. You have to start somewhere, and I learnt a lot doing them...

This peacock fabric was in my stash and the colours were right so they became the corner blocks. They inspired the name for the quilt - Peacock Garden

The quilt top has sat in my cupboard for about 2 years. I was putting off quilting it , partly because it's big! and because I was worried about not doing a good enough job. I took it to Tanya Croft, my lovely long arm quilter who chose a simple loopy squiggly all-over design. I'm so happy with it, it's not too fussy and just dances around the quilt.

I love this pattern and enjoyed making it, I'd really like to make it again in other colours.

Fun backing fabric!! Domestic Diva by Emily Taylor.
 One last pretty garden photo...

A super big Thank You to Amy from Amy's Creative Side for organising the Blogger's Quilt Festival!! And to all the wonderful sponsers for supporting such a fun event.

I always try to reply to comments but it's going to be a busy week of trying to visit as many festival blogs as I  can so please excuse me if I don't reply, but if you leave me a comment I'll make sure I visit your blog and leave a comment in return. :)
